A long time ago, a man named Julius Caesar was assassinated by a group of senators who felt he was gaining too much power and feared the republic was in jeopardy of the man who was given the title of “Dictator for life”. They took it upon themselves to rid any chance of Caesar abusing his immense power. And so Julius Caesar, Emperor of Rome, was assassinated on the Ides of March.
Since then, the Ides of March has been synonymous with caution, danger, liberation, and conspiracy. For me, it has translated into liberating oneself from the oppression of the status quo and taking back power from the small percentage of those who hold it and would do anything to protect their interests. So many, like me end up following the unfulfilling daily grind of life. We go to school, graduate, work an unfulfilling job until we’re old and withered only to hope that your pension will sustain you for the rest of your days. And all along the way large financial institutions, insurance companies, and other corrupt institutions screw you along the way. We give so much of ourselves to large greedy companies protected by rich greedy politicians that the sacrifice isnt worth it. It’s simply not a fair deal!
So what exactly is the Ides of March?
Well, it’s not a clothing line. The Ides of March is a lifestyle fashion experience first of its kind encompassing values from the world of street art, graffiti, skateboarding, slam poetry, hip-hop, rock, and other subcultures from the street. The Ides of March appeals to the thinking individual who is well aware of the environment they live in and finds inspiration through thoughtful and powerful imagery. At its core, it is ultimately about freedom and the power to express oneself.
Originating in Michigan, combined with Midwestern attitude, and forged in Detroit like the hardest steel, the idea and passion behind the Ides of March is built tough to withstand whatever you can throw at it. Here you will not just find clothing but music, art, and thought provoking writing.
All garments will be printed on the highest quality materials using a reputable and quality driven screen printing company, no cheap stuff here. As a firm believer in fair business and the saving of small businesses, every effort will be made to ensure the products are made in the U.S.A. with ethically created materials from fellow small business people. Some products will be made or hand embellished by me, the owner and lead designer, and will be available in limited editions.
As my project grows I will conduct interviews with various artists in the music and street art scene that people may not have heard of before. I will also include writings of my own on various topics ranging from art to bringing awareness to important issues going on in the world today. We’re talking about expansion of the mind son!
I thank you very much for taking the time and reading about my dream and only hope you stay tuned as there are good things coming soon.
Sincerely,
Sami
